The Legacy of Mohammad ﷺ is more than a 12 day celebration

Shaaista Kazmi

Every year Rabiul Awwal changes the way places look around me. The dark streets are decorates with sparkling lights. The dull outlook of the cities become colorful and the sounds of Naat and Salam are heard everywhere. Altogether it is a joyful environment and makes everyone who sees this feel good.

Beneath the lantern of lights, in a car parking area in my street, there is a dog I see. This dog has been living in there for half a decade. The owner of the parking lot does not own the dog but has been enjoying its services to watch the cars when he sleeps relaxed in the night. The dog is badly sick for past many days. I asked the owner indirectly what he was going to do about the dog, he said when it dies he will throw him in the space where garbage is dumped. In the loud sounds of Naat they play daily in the evening, the cries and moaning of the dog become faint.

The celebrations are over tonight but it did not change the condition of that dog.

I have heard Mohammad ﷺis the universal prophet of mercy and he had always shown love and kindness towards the animals.

The celebrations have not helped to change the plight of the families who sleep on roads or those who sleep hungry.

I have heard Mohammad ﷺ was the one who said, ‘He who sleeps on a full stomach while his neighbor is hungry is not one of us.’

No Rabbi Ul Awwal has changed the condition of dirty streets, drains, parks and public places.

I have heard Mohammad ﷺwas the one who said ‘Cleanliness is half of the faith’.

I have heard that Allah Himself and His angles send blessings on Mohammad ﷺ.

And I have heard that Mohammadﷺ has been sent a role model for the humanity.

I have heard much more about Mohammad ﷺ but what I have heard will rather make the people better than the places. It will change from inside rather than the outlook.

And it will take a lifetime to celebrate rather than just 12 days.

Let’s start the celebration.
